What is a Virtual Assistant?
Well that depends on who you ask.
|
“A Virtual Assistant (VA) is an independent entrepreneur providing administrative, creative and/or technical services. Utilizing advanced technological modes of communication and data delivery, a professional VA assists clients in his/her area of expertise from his/her own office on a contractual basis." |

"Like the majority of their clients, Virtual Assistants are entrepreneurs -- highly skilled in their profession and able to have a powerful impact on the productivity of those they work with. Traditionally, they have been known by many names: secretaries, administrative assistants, executive assistants or bookkeepers. But in an age where technology has made the world a much smaller place, and where more professionals are working from their homes or in satellite offices, the former assistant has become virtual -- and thanks to the internet, global." |

My personal preference is the last definition as given by the creators of the virtual assistant industry, Durst and Haaren, though each definition has its merit.
One of the authors of the 2-Second Commute noted the difficulty she initially had in getting people to understand what she did for a living as a virtual assistant.
So she says she eventually just toned it all down and got to the heart of the matter by telling prospects:
“I use the internet to help business people with their administrative tasks from my office instead of theirs.”
There. Isn’t simplicity wonderful?
